12 May 2023 - Marrakech Menara Airport: "kech.cab" one-stop shop for pre-ordering and booking cabs goes live

ONDA is pleased to announce the introduction of a one-stop shop at Marrakech Menara Airport, dedicated to pre-ordering and reserving cabs via a computer system based on new information and communication technologies.

Upon arrival and after collecting their luggage, passengers wishing to be transported by cab are guided by clear, appropriate signage to the counter where they can order a cab and prepay the fare by card or cash. Taxi fares are set by the relevant authorities, known in advance, and fixed according to the destination. Payment is made against a receipt, which the passenger must then scan at one of the dedicated terminals. They will then receive a ticket showing the cab number and their place in the queue. The counter is located at the exit of the Arrivals terminal and is staffed with the necessary personnel, identifiable by their uniforms.

This pre-ordering and prepayment stage will soon be available online on a dedicated website, "order.kech.cab," or at one of the kiosks to be installed.

Cabs serving the city of Marrakech from the airport are pre-registered and listed on an application provided by the service provider. They receive a tag to stick on their vehicle and an identification badge entitling them to provide this service.

This project is part of ONDA's efforts to offer passengers a better experience by reorganizing the airport's connectivity to the city, thus avoiding price manipulation and putting an end to any practices that run counter to the law. In coordination with the local authorities, ONDA launched a call for expressions of interest, which resulted in the selection of the Moroccan startup "Casky" to organize, modernize, and automate cab transport services from the airport.

The system uses a multilingual IT interface, operational 24/7, to manage pre-orders and cab reservation tickets, as well as cab and customer queues. It also handles fare payment and complaint management.

The solution also enables real-time data feedback for monitoring and control by a commission set up by the prefecture for this purpose.

In addition to the preliminary preparations required to roll out this new service, ONDA has supported the project with a number of other structuring actions:

  • Installation of clear signage inside and outside the airport;
  • Reorganization of the waiting area on arrival, with delineation of the circuit leading to the cab counter;
  • Reorganization of traffic lanes on the airport's access and exit roads, and at the main cab stand (rear base), including the installation of traffic lights;
  • Concessionary terms for the service provider;

This approach is set to be extended to other airports in Morocco.

The Moroccan Airports Authority remains committed to raising the quality of its services to the highest level, in line with the best international standards, so that Morocco's airports can be a fine showcase for Morocco and an attractive factor for tourists and investors alike.
